The Audi Q3 is the entry-level SUV for the German brand. 2026 is a major turning point as the Q3 gets completely overhauled with better performance, upgraded technology, more premium features, and a simplified trim strategy.
Base Price: $43,700
As Tested: $51,790
Horsepower: 255
Mileage: 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway/25 mpg combined
The Q3 is the smallest SUV made by Audi and is now in its third generation. It competes with the likes of the Acura ADX, BMW X1, Lexus UX, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and the Volvo XC40. There’s room for five passengers in two rows of seating.
One of the biggest changes for 2026 is the elimination of different trims; rather, the 2026 Q3 is only available in the Q3 S line quattro with a starting price of $43,700. This price is higher than the starting price of some rivals. As the name suggests, Audi’s all-wheel drive system is standard. Buyers can choose from optional packages to get additional features and tech.
The exterior gets a more aggressive stance with a larger single-frame grille with illuminated Audi rings, split headlight design with LED signatures, and more sculpted body lines.
Under the hood, every Q3 gets an upgraded powertrain: a turbocharged 2.0 liter inline four-cylinder engine that makes 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Q3 is quick – Audi says the Q3 has best-in-class acceleration of 5.5 seconds from zero to 60 mph which is 1.6 seconds quicker than before. There’s also plenty of oomph in midrange power delivery. Steering feel and chassis control are improved over the outgoing model. The transmission shifts smoothly and quickly in most driving situations but can sometimes get clunky at slow speeds. The Q3 corners well with little body roll. The ride quality is on the firm side and can be a bit jarring on rough surfaces. Overall, the Q3 is fun and engaging to drive, although not quite as dynamic as the BMW X1.
Fuel economy is about average for a subcompact luxury SUV. EPA ratings for the 2026 Audi Q3 are 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined. I got 25 mpg during my week with a mix of city and highway driving.
When properly equipped, the A3 can tow up to 1,500 pounds.
The 2026 Q3 gets a revamped cabin which is now similar to larger Audi models. It looks modern with a minimalist feel. It has Audi’s latest “Digital Stage” cockpit – a dual-screen setup dominates the dash with an 11.9-inch gauge cluster and an Android-based infotainment system with 12.8-inch touchscreen. There’s now a steering-column shifter instead of a traditional gear lever, which makes for more storage space in the center console.
The front seats are supportive and comfortable. The rear seats are comfortable and roomy enough for two average-size adults, and the rear seats slide and recline, which is a nice touch for passengers and also provides flexibility in hauling cargo. While the interior is more refined, with standard leather seating, aluminum accents and wood trim, there are still some visible hard plastics which you don’t expect in an upscale brand.
The Q3 comes well-equipped with many standard features including:
- Rearview camera
- Leather upholstery
- Heated front seats with driver memory
- Power eight-way adjustable driver’s seat
- Tri-zone automatic climate control
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror with digital compass
- Audi sound system
- 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster
- 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Two front and two rear USB-C ports
- Wireless device charging
- Ambient LED interior lighting
- Universal garage door opener
- Panoramic sunroof
- 18-inch alloy wheels (19- and 20-inch wheels are available)
The Q3 can be customized with optional packages and standalone upgrades:
- Driver Assistance Package ($1,250) adds adaptive cruise assist (lane centering and distance control), park assist plus, surround-view camera system and heated steering wheel
- Infotainment Package ($1,000) adds a Sonos premium audio system, additional USB ports, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
- Technology Package ($1,400) adds a head-up display, and OLED taillights.
- Black Optic Package ($750) includes Anthracite Audi rings, high-gloss black exterior side mirror housings, black exterior trim and black roof rails.
Standalone upgrades include 19- or 20-inch wheels (18-inch wheels are standard), all-weather floor mats, and several exterior paint options.
The digital driver display and infotainment screens look great with a slight curve oriented to the driver. Graphics are crisp and the system responds quickly to commands. The customizable interface lets you place widgets for vehicle performance, media and navigation as you like. But there are few physical controls, which is a pain. You have to use the touch controls to adjust climate settings. At least there’s a volume knob. And the black plastic around the screens looks a little low rent.
Standard driver assistance technologies include
- Forward collision warning
- Automatic emergency braking
- Adaptive cruise control
- Lane departure warning
- Blind-spot warning
- Traffic sign recognition
- Front and rear cross-traffic alert
- Front and rear parking
- Driver attention monitoring
Available driver assistance technologies include
- Adaptive cruise assist
- Park assist plus
Cargo space is decent for a subcompact luxury SUV. There are 25 cubic feet of space with both rows of seating in place, 29 cubes with the second row slid forward, and up to 50 cubes with the second row folded. The wide opening makes it easy to load and unload larger items. A power tailgate is standard.
The good:
Strong performance for the class
Improved performance
Standard AWD
Simplified trim strategy
Modern, tech-filled cabin
Long list of standard features and tech
Standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
The not-so-good:
Higher starting price than some rivals
Some hard plastics in the cabin
Lack of physical controls
Single trim line-up may not appeal to some buyers
Pricing info:
My 2026 Audi Q3 S Line quattro test vehicle starts at $43,700. Malpelo Blue metallic paint is $595. The 20-inch wheel package is $1,800 and includes 20-inch five-spoke-tripod design wheels, bicolor finish and all-season tires. The Technology Package is $1,400 and includes a head-up display and OLED taillights. The Driver Assistance Package is $1,250 and includes adaptive cruise assist, heated steering wheel, park assist plus, and top view camera. The Infotainment Package is $1,000 and includes SiriusXM satellite radio, Sonos sound system, and USB power delivery. The Black Optic Package is $750 and includes Anthracite Audi rings, and black exterior trim, mirror housings and roof rails. The destination charge is $1,295, bringing the grand total to $51,790.
Bottom line:
The 2026 Audi Q3 is much improved over previous generations for its better handing, modern cabin, and upgraded tech. Many buyers will likely appreciate the simple trim structure. But it’s not perfect. The 2026 Q3 has a higher starting price than some rivals, and some materials in the cabin feel less premium than you’d expect in an Audi. Still, the 2026 A3 is a stylish and tech-forward offering that’s now much more competitive with other entry-level offerings from luxury brands.
