BOISE – The year was 1975 – Jaws ruled the box office, the first episode of Saturday Night Live premiered, and AAA launched its industry-leading Approved Auto Repair (AAR) program to help vehicle owners find trusted shops for repairs and maintenance.
The repair program’s 50th anniversary milestone arrives just in time for the beginning of October Car Care Month. As millions of Americans prepare for the dark, cold days of winter, now is a great time to make sure your car is ready for the road.
“Our mission has always been the same – peace of mind. People want to protect their investment with the help of a knowledgeable professional and quality service at a reasonable price,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “With over 7,000 facilities across North America – and counting – there is likely a shop near you.”
Stringent criteria for participation in the AAR program include:
- ASE or facility-certified technicians who possess the skills and knowledge to perform high-quality repairs
- High customer service standards, including transparent communication and friendly service
- Regular inspections by AAA field representatives to ensure AAA members and the driving public receive a consistent experience
AAA members enjoy several benefits at AAA Approved Auto Repair facilities:
- Free maintenance inspection with any paid service
- Fair pricing, with a minimum of 10% off labor costs
- A 24-month/24,000-mile warranty (whichever comes first)
AAA car care tips
- Don’t ignore that drip in the driveway. It’s important to catch issues while they’re small.
- Have your battery tested if it’s three years old or older. If you replace it, have the old one recycled.
- Make sure tires are properly inflated, with adequate tread.
- Check hoses, belts, and engine fluid levels.
- Check and replace wiper blades and air filters as needed.
- Have your mechanic perform a smaller job first, like a tire rotation or oil change.
