According to ITD, Idaho’s observed seat belt use was nearly 88% in 2022, but just 34% of those who were killed in motor vehicle crashes were wearing seat belts at the time. It’s been estimated that if everyone had been wearing seat belts, 42 of the 84 unbuckled vehicle occupants who died may have survived.
“Seat belts are a critical piece of safety equipment that’s readily available in most cars – we just need to take advantage of it,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “If you’re giving the gift of your time and love by traveling to see family and friends over the holidays, think of your seat belt as the ribbon on your present.”
