BOISE – The cost of gasoline is up again in Idaho. According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular is $4.35, which is five cents more than a week ago, 34 cents more than a month ago, and 82 cents more than a year ago.
The national average fell by nine cents this week to just above $4 per gallon, which is 12 cents more than a month ago and 86 cents more than a month ago. Idaho moved all the way up to 7th for the most expensive gas prices in the nation.
“The Rockies region is slow to react to price changes in other parts of the country, but the good news is that if pump prices keep dropping elsewhere, we might be next in line for some savings,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Hopefully, global crude oil prices will stabilize, coupled with lower demand as we move into the fall and the busy school year.”
The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is now trading near $81 per barrel – about $3 more than a month ago and nearly $20 more than a year ago. More expensive crude means higher gas prices.
According to the Energy Information Administration, domestic crude supplies increased by 3 million barrels this week, while gasoline supplies fell by about 1.5 million barrels.
