BOISE – Idaho drivers saw a slight decrease in the state’s average gas price this week.  According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.46, about a penny less than a week ago, six cents cheaper than a month ago, but two cents more than a year ago.

The national average currently sits at $3.08 per gallon, which is five cents cheaper than a week ago, ten cents less than a month ago, and 12 cents less than a year ago.  Idaho again ranks 8th in the country for the most expensive fuel behind California ($4.67), Washington ($4.48), Hawaii ($4.46), Oregon ($4.09), Nevada ($3.88), Alaska ($3.87), and Arizona ($3.48).

“Idaho drivers are getting eager to see some more savings at the pump.  Fuel demand tends to drop off heading into the colder months, and the falling cost of crude oil could also help our cause,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde.  “We could all do with a little more walking around money as we gear up for end-of-year holidays.”

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading just under $60 per barrel, falling below that mark on Friday for the first time since April 2021.  Increased crude production by OPEC+ and reduced tensions in the Middle East may be helping drive down market prices.

AAA urges drivers to keep up routine maintenance, including regularly checking tire pressure and using fuel injector cleaner to improve fuel economy.
