Level 2 EV charging has been available for several years at most of our Service Centers and will continue to be offered at our AAA facilities. Level 2 charging is the most common type used in public charging stations, businesses, grocery stores, retail locations, and hotels. It can provide 10 to 75 miles of range per hour, depending on the vehicle.

Portland, Bend, Boise, Eugene and Medford are markets where AAA Oregon/Idaho provides mobile charging for EVs on the roadside. AAA Oregon/Idaho first launched this service as part of AAA’s first pilot program back in 2011 when Portland was one of only six cities across the country where mobile EV charging was offered. AAA was the first motor club in North America to offer a roadside assistance truck with the capability to charge electric vehicles.

The AAA service trucks with mobile electric vehicle charging capability provide a Level 2 charge and can typically provide about 10 to 14 miles of range in about 30 minutes so that EV drivers can get home or to a charging station. This service is included in all levels of AAA membership.

“Our commitment at AAA is to provide our legendary service to our members and all the types of vehicles they drive. As the popularity of electric vehicles continues to grow, we want to ensure that people can drive their EVs with convenient places to get quick charging while on-the-go,” adds Morgan.

AAA Oregon/Idaho also has several electric vehicles as part of its fleet including several Ford Lightning pickups and a Ford E-Transit van. Our EV service vehicles provide light services for battery, tire, and fuel related disablements. We also use our Ford Lightnings to provide bicycle transports and provide rides to AAA members during winter weather events.

AAA is also committed to doing research and educating our members and the general public about transportation options such as electric vehicles. AAA provides unbiased information about EVs, including the pros and cons of these vehicles. Find out more at EV.AAA.com
