BOISE – After a brief uptick, Idaho gas prices are once again falling. According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.29, about two cents less than a week ago and a month ago, and 47 cents cheaper than a year ago.
The national average currently sits at $3.17 per gallon, about the same as a week ago and three cents more than a month ago, but 42 cents cheaper than a year ago.
Idaho currently ranks 10th in the nation for the most expensive fuel behind California ($4.85), Hawaii ($4.47), Washington ($4.41), Oregon ($4.02), Nevada ($3.92), Alaska ($3.66), Illinois ($3.41), Arizona ($3.35), and Pennsylvania ($3.29).
“We saw a mild jump in gas prices, but demand could subside for the next week or two as Idaho families finish out the school year,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “But then, watch out – we could see pump prices climbing in a sustained pattern throughout the summer.”
One thing that has held pump prices in check has been the cost of crude oil. The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude is currently trading near $61 per barrel, nearly $19 less than a year ago.
