BOISE – Idaho drivers are feeling some relief when they stop to fuel up today – according to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.47, which is about two cents cheaper than a week ago, about a penny less than a month ago, and 11 cents less than a year ago.
The national average currently sits at $3.19 per gallon – the same as a week ago, but three cents more than a month ago and 12 cents less than a year ago. Idaho remains in 8th place for the most expensive fuel, with California leading the way at $4.61 per gallon.
“Thankfully, refineries have been able to keep up with surging demand as people traveled over the holiday weekend, and crude oil prices are still manageable,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Hopefully, we will see pump prices take a seasonal slide as more people stay closer to home throughout the fall.”
The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading near $66 per barrel, $3 more than a week ago but the same price as a month ago.
“We’ve been pretty lucky so far. Hurricane season has had a minimal effect on supplies and infrastructure,” Conde said. “Fingers crossed that it remains a fairly quiet year.”
AAA urges drivers to improve fuel economy by making sure their tires are properly inflated, bundling errands, and avoiding stop-and-go traffic wherever possible.
