BOISE – Idaho drivers are continuing to get some relief at the pump. According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the Gem State is $4.02, which is nine cents less than a week ago, and 51 cents less than a month ago. However, prices are still about 61 cents higher than a year ago.
The national average currently sits at $3.79 per gallon, which is seven cents less than a week ago and 40 cents less than a month ago, but 65 cents higher than a year ago. Idaho currently ranks 9th in the country for the most expensive fuel. 48 of the 50 states saw price drops this week.
“We are getting so close to the $4 mark for the state average, and some parts of Idaho are already below that number,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Fingers crossed that prices continue to drop – and stay that way – this week.”
The main reason for cheaper gas prices is the lower cost of crude oil. The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude is currently trading near $68 per barrel. Barrel prices are now similar to a year ago, and if the pattern holds, additional savings could be on the way for Idaho drivers this week.
“Just remember to think like a delivery driver and bundle those trips,” Conde said. “And if you’re buying extra groceries for that cookout, just make sure you’re getting the full benefit of any fuel rewards points that you’ve earned.”
