BOISE – As the school year resumes in parts of Idaho, some drivers are already feeling like they’ve missed recess.
According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.53, about six cents more than a week ago and a month ago, but eight cents less than a year ago.
The national average currently sits at $3.14 per gallon, about a penny and a half less than a week ago, three cents less than a month ago, and about 30 cents cheaper than a year ago. Once again, Idaho remains in 7th place for the most expensive fuel, with California leading the way at $4.50.
“As more families stay closer to home, we may see a calming effect on gas prices during the week, with occasional blips on the weekends as people take advantage of beautiful summer weather,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “There could be a teeter totter effect on pump prices, which seems like a fitting analogy to kick off the school year.”
While the cost of crude oil jumped to $70 per barrel at the end of July, prices have calmed down somewhat. The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude is currently trading near $64 per barrel – about $2 less than a week ago and $4 less than a month ago.
“Expect crowded roads on the weekends, including RVs on two-lane highways,” Conde said. “Hopefully, we will see some relief on gas prices once we move past Labor Day weekend.”
Here’s a look at Idaho gas prices as of 8/11/25:
- Boise – $3.60

- Franklin – $3.39
- Idaho Falls – $3.44
