BOISE – Idaho drivers might be dealing with frigid weather these days, but they’re still getting a warm feeling when they stop to fill up their cars.

According to AAA, today’s average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $2.78 per gallon, which is a penny more than a week ago, but 14 cents less than a month ago and 25 cents cheaper than a year ago.

The national average currently sits at $2.82 per gallon, marking another unusual week with Idaho prices below the U.S. average.  Today’s price is the same as a week ago, four cents less than a month ago, and about 30 cents less than a year ago.

Idaho ranks 23rd in the country for the most expensive fuel, with the most expensive pump prices in Hawaii at $4.41 per gallon and the cheapest in Oklahoma at $2.31 per gallon.

“January typically brings the cheapest pump prices, and we’ll enjoy them for as long at they last,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde.  “As weather conditions improve heading into spring, we often see rising demand apply upward pressure on gas prices.”

AAA recommends making the most of fuel rewards points to save even more.  Many grocers, retailers, and credit card companies offer fuel rewards as an additional way to save on everyday purchases.  In addition, drivers should bundle trips and avoid stop-and-go traffic if possible.
