So you want to pack light? Maybe even try to pack for your entire trip in one carry-on bag? But how do you pack light for 50 degrees and 80 degrees in the same trip? The secret is layering.
Here are a few tips to help you efficiently plan and layer your travel wardrobe:
Wear your heaviest clothing on the airplane.
Did you know your coat doesn’t count towards your carry-on plus personal bag limitations? Attach it to your bag with a specially designed clip and keep your hands free.
Pack around a single neutral color…
…(black, blue or tan) so that you can mix and match anything in your wardrobe. You can pack a variety of outfits by simply taking three bottoms and two or three outerwear layers in compatible colors and just changing up your top. Consider multi-use items, like the new Habitat™ shirt-jacket. It’s perfect to wear all day sightseeing (layered for warmth) and can easily be dressed up for dinner by adding a scarf or a new necklace you discover on your travels.

Scarves, especially large scarves are the ultimate versatile accessory.
They can dress up your outfit, add a layer of warmth, and act as a cover-up on the beach. Also they’re great to have on hand if you’re visiting locations that might require you to cover your head or shoulders.

Contrast bulky, single use items with layers…
Pack a couple pieces that can be layered one on top of the other to create customizable comfort for any weather. A lightweight vest (like the Columbia Silver Ridge ™ Vest) or jacket (the Columbia Splash A Little ™ Jacket) is a great piece for layering. Buy one size larger than you normally wear and layer a sweater underneath for colder nights.
Buy natural fabrics like cashmere or lightweight wool when they’re on sale; they’re a great way to add warmth without bulk. Silk long underwear is also a good option and often goes on sale during the summer months
