The Harney County Migratory Bird Festival from April 11-14 offers guided tours and workshops by local experts in celebration of the annual migration of birds through the Harney Basin of Southeast Oregon. Recognizing the dedication of John Scharff, the first on-site manager of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 1935, the festival celebrates the thousands of migratory birds, from waterfowl to shorebirds, cranes to raptors, wading birds to songbirds, that rest and feed in the landscape of Oregon’s high desert during their spring journey north.
