BOISE – After a long and chilly winter, many Americans are kicking off their travel plans over Spring Break week. AAA is sharing this year’s most popular destinations, along with tips to keep the vacation safe and worry-free.
“Travel is a very personal decision, and many see it as essential to their quality of life. With a few precautions, everyone can feel more comfortable along the way,” says AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “We are already seeing some hotspot destinations that are sure to draw some happy crowds.”
Here are the top destinations, according to AAA Idaho booking data:
| 2026 Top Spring Break Destinations | ||
| U.S. Destinations | International Destinations | Regional Destinations |
| Las Vegas, NV | Paris, France | Bend, OR |
| San Diego, CA | Rome, Italy | Seattle, WA |

“Warm weather, theme parks, and family get-togethers are popular choices as busy Idahoans try to get through the remainder of the busy school year,” Conde said.
AAA previously reported that 21.7 million Americans plan to take a cruise this year. Caribbean itineraries departing from Florida and the Bahamas are among the most popular for Spring Break.
Travelers planning to drive abroad can now apply for International Driving Permits online. AAA is one of only two official organizations authorized by the U.S. Department of State to issue IDPs. While you can still apply in person at a AAA Service Center, you also have the option to use your smartphone to take a digital photo and complete the application online. Many countries require IDPs to rent a car and drive legally.
Peace of mind
AAA offers the following advice for Spring Break travelers:
- Remain vigilant. Monitor news from local media and the U.S. embassy. Social media is another great way to stay connected. If you have questions about a particular destination, speak with a travel agent to identify similar or alternative destinations.
- If you’re traveling abroad, enroll in the State Department’s STEP (Safe Traveler Enrollment Program) which allows the U.S. to know where you’re going and send you security updates during your stay.
- Consider purchasing travel insurance to prepare for the unexpected, including trip interruptions and illnesses. Speak to a travel agent for more information about what is covered and what is not. Acts of war are generally excluded from most travel insurance policies.
- Check your flight status before heading to the airport and download the airline app to stay informed.
